I grew up drawing a lot of hockey pictures—football, not so much. The only thing I knew about the Canadian Football League was that, of its nine teams, two were called either the Roughriders or the Rough Riders. My current awareness of the N.F.L. has little to do with the actual games being played on the field, alas.
