Slide Show: The Oldest Place on Earth

On average, people in Japan live longer than people anywhere else in the world, and they live longer in the prefecture of Nagano than anywhere else in Japan. The women of Nagano live an average of 87.2 years, while the men average 80.9 years, according to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Recently, the photographer James Whitlow Delano travelled to Nagano to document the life of the older residents and capture the daily practices that helped them to reach such an advanced age.
