On Tuesday evening, the long standoff between protesters and riot police in Kiev exploded with a new round of deadly violence, the worst since protests against Ukraine’s President, Viktor Yanukovych, began in November. The photographer Yuri Kozyrev covered the demonstrations as they rapidly gained momentum in the months that followed. Here is a selection of his pictures from Kiev, taken in December, that capture the deepening conflict between a state and its citizens.
