This week in the magazine, John Colapinto writes about the Plastiki, a boat made entirely of recyclable plastics, that David de Rothschild plans to sail across the Pacific Ocean. Here, de Rothschild and members of the crew talk about the building of the boat, at Pier 31 in San Francisco, California. This video was filmed in January 2009; since then, Mike Rose, the boat’s chief builder, has left the project.
