The recent breaches of security at the White House have shone a harsh spotlight on the Secret Service (and its competence). The President’s security detail is almost as iconic as the White House itself, and, over the years, has served up inspiration for New Yorker cartoonists. Some of the drawings are timeless; others—like a February, 1963, cartoon by Alan Dunn, imagining the equestrian element in Jacqueline Kennedy’s detail—have a topicality that can, in retrospect, be poignant.
