Eyeball Kicks: Lynda Barry Sells Out

Eyeball Kicks Lynda Barry Sells Out

“For years, I wanted to hold on to my work, to have it all in one place, so I kept everything,” Lynda Barry, the painter, cartoonist, playwright, and teacher (at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), who is in town for the opening of the first exhibit of her work, says. She continues: “But now I realize I don’t want it anymore. It’s stuff from 1979 until today, though I’d never seen it all in one place like that, so nicely framed. Some of it has glitter or glow-in-the-dark material that doesn’t ever reproduce correctly, even in the gorgeous books. And, also, we need a car. We need a new car really bad. So I’m putting it all up for sale. I like the idea that my artwork will end up on people’s walls. I have so much—everything I ever did. The name of the show is ‘Everything: Part One.’ ”

The exhibit will be on view at the Adam Baumgold gallery through July 11th. Here is a selection of Barry’s pieces:
