Playing Tourist in New York City

I recently spoke with Dolly Faibyshev about the ongoing project &#8220I Love New York,” in which Faibyshev, a second-generation Russian immigrant, photographs herself in the role of a tourist, hopping on and off sightseeing buses and visiting landmarks. “Being a stranger in a new city, you sort of get to disappear,” she said. “The tourists in New York are enjoying the city as their own circus, or their own show, not worried about what people are thinking.” She began “I Love New York” as an attempt to portray the humor of the city, as well as to “become reacquainted with my own city, and see it from a tourist’s perspective.”
