Slide Show: Beaches at Twilight

Eddie Soloway’s series “The Edge of Light“ includes painterly photographs taken along the water’s edge on beaches around the world—but only at twilight. Soloway looks for a specific kind of location; he pays attention to the type of sand, the slope of the beach, and the movement of the waves.

All of the images are made under low and natural light, with the camera on a tripod. The colors “come from the changing blue hues of the night sky, perhaps an overhead golden cloud, or moonlight lighting passing clouds,” Soloway writes. “There is a short period of time when I have enough light to show the details of ocean movement.”
