Network Notes from My Parents

Episode 1:

Can we please try to feel like more of a family here?

We’re really missing the girlfriend character. We don’t care that she’s dating that lawyer, let’s make a real effort to have Hannah return this season. She was very likable. And we didn’t want to say it, but she made the son character more likable, too.

Haven’t seen any conversations with the grandmother recently. Her contract won’t be around forever. Let’s get an arc in before we lose her.

Episode 2:

Why did Hannah have to leave? Whose decision was it? Can you explain this more? Again, we were huge fans.

The apartment is horribly lit. Can we open some windows next time and let some light in there? We’d really love to see the son in the upcoming Passover episode.

Episode 3:

Cut all the scenes of the son writing. It’s not going anywhere.

Why did the therapy stop? Those scenes were a helpful way to figure out what was going on. And good for character development.

Episode 4:

We are loving the younger brother this season. Very, very likable. No notes on him!

Can we actually see more of the younger brother? Have you seen pictures of his office? Let’s look at pictures of his office. It even has room for a couch.

Can’t remember if we gave this note yet—we really want the son in that Passover episode. Don’t mean to nag, but it’s very important for the ensemble. And for character development!

Episode 5:

We’ve been hearing some great stuff about the Resnick’s daughter. She’s got a great energy, very likable, could really do some exciting things. We’re setting you guys up for a meeting.

We know you’re attached to the writing montages, but just want to mention—lots of successful shows right now about lawyers. And doctors.

Episode 6:

Took the Hannah note way too far. The stalking scenes feel cringey. Bad cringey.

It’s also the same exact story line of what happened with Chloe last season, and that didn’t end well.

The lighting feels worse now than before.

Episode 7:

What’s this whole thing about getting fired and moving back home? We never signed off on this log-line. What is happening? You had such a strong premise and you’re ruining everything.

The breakdown sobbing was a bad version of the dinner scene. Do we really need that? Is it too much to ask to have one nice dinner scene?

You’re making the parent characters feel too old.

Episode 8:

Go back to the workplace scenario or we’re pulling the plug. We don’t have the budget to finance sets for living in the garage.

“Artisanal bowl-maker” is not a marketable profession, in any demo. Almost makes us miss the writing scenes.

We should add that it’s clear all of the drawings on the bowls are of Hannah. And she is no longer a regular cast-member.

Episode 9:

We are very disappointed about the Passover episode. That’s all we’re going to say.

Episode 10:

Unfortunately, we’ve decided to take a step back and reëvaluate what direction this thing is going in, and where you fit into our family here. Until then, we’ll be putting you on financial hold. It’s nothing personal.
