As we prepared for Sunday’s Oscars, these images from the twenty-fifth Academy Awards caught our eye. The ceremony was televised for the first time that year, 1953, with the stars filling theatres in both Hollywood and New York City. “High Noon” was upset by “The Greatest Show on Earth” for Best Picture; John Ford won his still-a-record fourth Best Director award, for “The Quiet Man.”
