Slide Show: Unnatural Numbers

Mark Dorf is a Brooklyn-based artist who is interested in how we define and quantify our surroundings through math and science. “The human race is constantly recording data and transforming elements of our physical surroundings into abstracted and non-physical calculations in order to gain an understanding of the world,” Dorf told me. “Axiom and Simulation,” which was shot in upstate New York and in Iceland, is his attempt to visualize this phenomenon.
