Slide Show: Remembering Anja Niedringhaus

On Friday, an Afghan policeman opened fire on a car carrying the journalists Anja Niedringhaus and Kathy Gannon, of the Associated Press, in Khost province. The two women, who have covered the conflict in Afghanistan for years, were travelling with a government convoy conducting preparations for Afghanistan’s Presidential election, which takes place on Saturday. Gannon, a reporter, was said to be in stable condition after the shooting. Niedringhaus, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, was killed in the attack. These pictures, all taken in the past few weeks as the election approached, showcase some of her work from Afghanistan.
