Slide Show: Murmurs by Richard Barnes

In 2005, the photographer Richard Barnes travelled to the southern outskirts of Rome, where he was mesmerized by the dynamic and coördinated displays of the region’s starling flocks, known as murmurations. The distinctive formations inspired Barnes’s photo series “Murmur,” which is now on view at the Foley Gallery, in New York. Accompanying “Murmur” is Barnes’s series “Refuge,” a photographic examination of bird nests as aggregates of organic and man-made material.

Murmur & Refuge” is at the Foley Gallery through February 23rd.
