Sandy, One Year On

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the New Yorker staff photographer Pari Dukovic visited many of the areas most affected by the storm, documenting the destruction of entire neighborhoods and residents in the early stages of rebuilding their homes. Most of the pictures were shot in black and white, a decision that Dukovic made with the aim to “focus on composition and draw the viewer toward the physical shape of the chaos.” An exhibition of this work, much of which originally ran in New York magazine, is opening tomorrow night, at Kings County Distillery, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The proceeds of all print sales will go to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund. The photo team from The New Yorker will be there to lend our support, take in the photography, and maybe even sample some of that Kings County moonshine. We hope to see you there.
