Video: John Lurie and “The Drawing Show”

In this week’s issue of the magazine, Tad Friend writes about the actor and musician John Lurie, who went into hiding in 2008, believing that his closest friend, John Perry, intended to kill him (which Perry denies). (Subscribers can read the full text; others can buy access to the issue via the digital edition.) Friend looks at the ruptured relationship and the ensuing battle of wills from the perspective of both men. This video is an excerpt from a potential television pilot called “The Drawing Show,” in which Lurie sat for a portrait by Perry. Their falling out on the evening of the shoot marked the beginning of their estrangement.
